Keeping Warm and Healthy in Winter

As temperatures drop, it’s important to be sure your body stays nice and warm from the outside in. Read on for some things you can do (and wear) to keep your body warm, injury-free and healthy throughout this winter.
Some cozy warmups are a great place to start, and Capezio has got you covered from head to toe! As dancers, who are constantly twirling, jumping and relevé-ing about, keeping those feet and ankles warm is super vital. Warm feet not only ensure better foot articulation, but keeping the ends of your limbs warm can help regulate body temperature and even make for a stronger immune system, fighting you from cold and flu!
So kick off the snow boots and dip your feet into some booties, perfect for before or after class. We love the Basic Technique Warmup Bootie, available in pink or black charcoal, or for a little more pizazz, try the Quilted Warmup Bootie with glitter and stud accents. Your feet will love the faux fur lining in these booties!
One fashionable and practical way to keep warm is a great pair of legwarmers. Avoid stiff, crampy calf muscles in style with these Take a Bow! Legwarmers, which come in children’s size, or the above-the-knee 27″ Stirrup Legwarmers in neutral colors (easy for matching!).
Layering is key to keeping warm. Start with a base layer of the high-waisted Naomi Legging; its faux leather material will hug your legs. And add an additional layer with Capezio’s Perspiration Pants or Shorts. They’ll get you sweating in no time! We also love the funky Twisted Waistband Harem Pants. They’re roomy and cozy – great for layering or for hip hop class. For an elegant, feminine-looking cover-up, try the Romp in the Yard Romper. You’ll love its adorable front ruffle panel, contrasted with its drapey open back. It’s the perfect in-between-classes warmup tool.
For your upper body, the Zoe Poncho is a trendy way to hang out at the studio while secretly staying warm. It’s even got pockets for cold hands or storing your iPhone while listening to warmup tunes.
And nothing says keeping warm (and classy!) more than knitwear! The material is oh-so-snuggly, and Capezio offers many styles for all parts of your body. Wrap yourself in the Hugs and Kisses Reversible Top for versatile looks; layer the Fitted Knitted Bra Top over another bra top; and keep warm with the Life is Short…Dance! Shorts over your leotard and tights.
The Foldover Waistband Stirrup Pants allow you to wear them high-waisted for extra warmth at your core or folded down at your hips. Either way, these knit pants are warm, comfortable and elegant. A great on-the-go item is Capezio’s Eternity Scarf, a roomy, cozy knit scarf that’s both fashionable and warm to wear to and from the studio.
But being healthy in the winter is more than just keeping your body warm. Make sure you properly warm up and cool down (yes, even in the winter). This will help warm up joints and increase blood flow to your hard-working muscles, and help with lactic acid build-up and alleviate soreness the next day. And make sure to take a daily dose of vitamin C to help prevent illness. After all, you want to spend these months dancing, not curled up sick in bed!
