The Capezio Model Search contest, sponsored by New York City Dance Alliance, is held each July at Nationals. The talented, lucky winners receive Capezio merchandise and the opportunity of a lifetime to work with renowned dance photographer Chris Reilly in a professional photo shoot.
The 2016 Capezio Model Search winners are Madison Moonan, Marion Norris, Hyla Perillo, Phoenix Sutch and Sydney Tormey. We spoke to them about their experience at the shoot and what it means to them to be a Capezio model.
How does it feel to be a 2016 Capezio Model Search winner?
“It feels amazing to be a 2016 Capezio Model Search winner! I’m so thankful for this opportunity because I’ve always wanted to be a model, and I love Capezio dancewear and shoes.”
“Being a 2016 Capezio Model Search winner has by far been one of the coolest things that has ever happened to me. The fashion show was so much fun, and I made lots of new friends. I have always been a huge fan of Capezio, and it is a dream come true to represent their company. I can’t thank NYCDA and Capezio enough for the opportunity. Thank you!”
“It feels amazing to be selected to be Capezio’s Model Search winner! First entering, I didn’t think I had a shot but it would be amazing if I did, and I did!”
“It feels absolutely amazing! I am so incredibly honored to have been chosen as a Capezio Model Search winner. It was one of the best moments ever to hear my name called by Joe Lanteri for this award.”
“It is such a privilege to represent Capezio as a 2016 Model Search winner. It feels great.”
What was the photo shoot like? And what did you wear?
“The photo shoot by Chris Reilly was a dream come true. He was so nice and had great ideas for different photos. It was really fun because we went outside and took pictures in the middle of NYC. I felt like I was famous because people were stopping to watch and take pictures! I wore a black leotard from the Bradon Collection. It was super stylish yet comfortable at the same time! My favorite picture was one where Chris had me hanging from a stop sign. It was really artsy and creative!”
“The photo shoot with Chris Reilly was amazing. Shooting in the streets of New York was quite an adventure. Wearing my Seaport Tank Leotard made me feel confident while people watched me improv down the street. Working with Chris and Capezio was a great experience. Capezio is the brand of choice for dancers, and I love wearing it from head to toe!”
“The photo shoot was a super fun experience! All the other Capezio girls and I got to know each other, and we became really good friends. We wore gorgeous leos from Capezio’s new collection, from beautiful purples to bold blues. Everyone looked gorgeous. Chris Reilly gave us a few poses to do and asked what our tricks and strengths were. Working with him by myself was a dream come true. I have never had a photo shoot done before, and I’ve always wanted Chris to do it and finally it happened! This whole experience was amazing in itself. This was most definitely a highlight of my dance career and life. To Capezio and NYCDA with this amazing opportunity, I would like to say thank you so much!”
“The photo shoot was so much fun! It was an experience I will be forever grateful for. To be nine years old and to be in the streets of NYC getting photographed by my favorite dance photographer, Chris Reilly, was truly a dream come true. I wore a blue Capezio leotard that Dianne Giacoio from Capezio picked out for me. Dianne made everything so special. Chris made the photo shoot completely stress-free and all fun! He gave us great directions to follow in our group shoot and was always so supportive during the entire process. I could not have asked for more. I feel so lucky to have been given this opportunity!”
“Having a photo shoot on the streets of New York with Chris was unbelievable. He made it so memorable. His easy-going personality made me feel comfortable and made the experience one I will never forget. I wore Capezio’s Active Halter Leotard in the Stormy Skies color. Chris had me pose naturally for most of my shots; however, he did take some action dance shots. I won the Capezio model search in 2011 and was so excited to win again in 2016. Working with Dianne Giacoio and the staff at Capezio was incredible, and their ongoing support of my dance career is invaluable.”
