Biography

James was brought up with a very supportive, and loving family of Jack & Lela Floyd in the northeastern sunshine state of Florida!

He always enjoyed dancing just because of his pure enjoyment. James’ sister Emily Iva Floyd also a dancer, photographer, and choreographer has always guided him to many of his achievements. The Barbara Thompson School of Dance a local dance school in northern Jacksonville, Florida initiated James’ main dance training at age of 3 years old.

James’ interest was not originally in Classical ballet to begin with. He studied many different styles of dance while he was living in Jacksonville, Florida including gymnastics/acro, modern, character, jazz, contemporary, and classical ballet. By the age of 13 James had attended a performance of the production Romeo & Juliet by American Ballet Theatre Company at Lincoln Center.

Soon thereafter he was able to develop a more technical, and artistic understanding of Classical ballet. He says, “He was completely entranced by the grace, strength, and beauty the male dancers/characters portrayed as well as how well the story ballet could be understood so clear by movement without words.”

His classical ballet training did not begin intensely until the age of 15 after competing in Youth American Grand Prix finals in New York City 2010. Jams furthered his study of classical ballet & contemporary dance training on Scholarship with The Rock School for Dance Education a pre-professional year round study September 2010 through June 2014.

Later James joined The Joffrey Ballet Chicago for the 2014-2015 season as a Studio Company member. Currently he is now dancing for the second oldest ballet company in America, The Dayton Ballet. He has attended summers on full Scholarship with The Rock School, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Ballet Austin, The Joffrey Ballet Chicago, and The Bolshoi Ballet Academy summer intensive in New York City & in Moscow, Russia.
