Atlanta Ballet brings “Camino Real” back

  • by Dance Informa.

On May 12-14, Atlanta Ballet revives Camino Real at The Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. The company originally commissioned its Choreographer in Residence Helen Pickett to create the full-length contemporary ballet in 2015.

Based on the story by Tennessee Williams, Camino Real follows a light heavyweight boxing champ, Kilroy, who ventures to a strange town that is being oppressed by a wicked hotelier, Gutman. Will Kilroy help the townspeople save themselves? Including his love interest Esmeralda?

The Atlanta Ballet Orchestra will perform the score composed by Peter Salem live. Audiences can also look forward to spoken word, which is used throughout various scenes.
