American Dance Festival to award Liz Lerman

The American Dance Festival (ADF) has been presenting modern dance performance line-ups each summer for 83 years. Based in Durham, NC, it recently announced that it will bestow the 2017 Balasaraswati/Joy Anne Dewey Beinecke Endowed Chair for Distinguished Teaching on renowned dance artist Liz Lerman. The ceremony will take place on Saturday, July 15, 2017 on Duke University’s East Campus.

Liz Lerman is a dance educator, performer, writer, choreographer and speaker. She has received numerous honors, including a MacArthur “Genius Grant”, a United States Artists Ford Fellowship in Dance, and a Deutsch Fellowship.

Lerman joins a long list of other accomplished dance luminaries who have received this award. Past recipients include Pearl Primus, Donald McKayle, Bessie Schönberg, Matt Mattox and Ana Marie Forsythe.
